Description
ABSTRACT The relationship between absenteeism and academic performance was investigated among 172 students enrolled in an Introduction to Business course. The students who were absent from class on the random days attendance was taken performed significantly lower on subsequent tests. In addition, the total number of days absent from class was negatively correlated with performance on a comprehensive final exam. Finally, the number of days absent was found to be the second most important factor after GPA, in predicting student performance on the final exam. These findings suggest there may be some value in adopting intervention strategies designed to encourage attendance.
